Nespresso Machine Reviews

So which machine should you buy? Take a look at my Nespresso machine reviews below to help make up your mind.

Breville Nespresso Essenza Mini

If you’re looking for small Nespresso machine then this compact machine is a lovely option. With a fast heat up time of only 25 seconds, and two coffee settings, this Breville Nespresso machine satisfies those morning coffee cravings quickly and easily.

The minimalist black design is sleek and would look great in any kitchen, especially smaller ones without much counter space. It is easy to clean and refill, and is quiet enough to not wake sleeping family members so you can drink your coffee in peace.

De’Longhi Nespresso Essenza Mini

Another petite model, this mini Nespresso machine is perfect for smaller kitchens, and looks good enough to be left out all day. It’s also only 2.3kg, so portability isn’t an issue. Featuring two coffee selections, with only a 25 second heat up time, your morning cup of coffee is ever closer.

With this model you also get a separate milk frother, for either hot or cold milk, meaning you’re not just tied to drinking an espresso or lungo. You can have your mid-morning latte in the comfort of your own home!

Like most Nespresso machines, it’s intuitive, easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee, although I would suggest warming your cup first to ensure the perfect temperature.

Breville Nespresso Citiz

De'Longhi Essenza Mini Coffee Machine, White, EN85WSOLO

If you’re set on a Delonghi Nespresso machine, but find the Essenza is a bit too small, then the Nespresso Citiz could be the one for you.

It works in a very similar way to the Essenza, but with a larger water tank and pod tray. Featuring the same 25 second heat up, eco-mode shut off and 19 bar pump system, this Citiz Nespresso machine makes the perfect cup of coffee every time.

While this model doesn’t come with a milk frother, there is a version that does, and the sliding cup support makes it easy to fill a taller glass for the flat white addict in your life.

Delonghi Nespresso Inissia

Another Delonghi model, this comes all of the great features of the previous two, as well as a separate milk frother. The machine is compact, fitting in a space only 12cm wide, and comes with a carry handle for easy portability.

The eco-mode is automatically set to turn off after nine minutes, but you change this to 30 minutes if needed. The 0.7L water reservoir makes up to nine drinks without needing to be refilled, and because it’s removable, clean up is simple and quick.

Overall this is a lovely option for smaller kitchens, and comes in a range of bright colours to fit with any interior.

De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo Plus Bundle

Vertuo Plus Nespresso machines use a different pod to other models. They are much bigger, and the coffee is extracted differently. Depending on the drink you want, each pod has a unique bar code, which tells the machine how much water to use and the length of infusion needed. Rather than pressure, water is injected into the capsule which then rotates at up to 7,000rpm to create the perfect cup of coffee.

I know, it sounds much more complicated, but trust me, all you have to do is pop the pod in and pick from the five cup size choices by pressing one button, and the machine does the rest.

This bundle also comes with a set of capsules for you to try, as well as the Aeroccino milk frother so you can make your morning flat white quickly and easily. This model is relatively large compared to others, but it’s definitely worth the extra space.

Nespresso Lattissima One

If you can’t live without your daily flat white, or cappuccino, but aren’t too confident with your milk frothing skills, then this is a lovely option. Delivering the perfect amount of frothed milk at the touch of a button, this is an easy to use model that will make your mornings much happier.

With its sleek design and classic white colour, it looks perfect in any kitchen, while the 19 bar pump system creates the perfect coffee crema every time,

The milk container does have to be cleaned after each use, but just stick it in the dishwasher and you’re ready for the next day!

Nespresso Latissima Touch

Another coffee machine and milk frother in one, this gorgeous silver (or black) machine is the perfect choice for making barista style lattes.

There are six one-touch drinks programmed, including lattes, espressos and cappuccinos, so you can cater for any preferences your guests may have. The water and milk heat up incredibly quickly, and although the milk container needs washing after every brew, it can be thrown in the dishwasher for ease.

If you love milky coffees, then this is a great option.

Breville Creatista Uno

The Creatista Uno is just a really simple, intuitive machine. You can pick from three different milk temperatures, as well as different coffee types, and away you go. It’s all automatic!

It comes with a steam wand, instead of a milk frother, which seems overwhelming until you realise that’s also automated and produces the perfect milk every time. It even purges itself, meaning clean up is fast and easy.

Not only does it make your morning coffee simpler, it looks great sitting on your counter top, and with its compact design, it’ll fit perfectly in any kitchen.

Breville Creatista Plus

A step up from the Creatista Uno, this is a marvel of a coffee machine. It works similarly to the Uno, but with a few key improvements.

The LED display makes picking your drink quick and easy, while the three second heat up time means your coffee is ready before you can blink. The steam wand is automatic, but instead of three temperatures, there’s eleven!

This is the closest coffee machine to the real barista experience that you can get, but it comes at a cost. This is expensive, so you’ll need to weigh up the cost.

Wacaco Minipresso NS

If you’re always on the go, but unwilling to compromise on your coffee (a bit like me!), then you need a travel Nespresso machine.

The Wacaco Minipresso is a portable Nespresso machine, and is small and light enough to fit in your handbag, meaning perfect Nespresso coffee wherever you are. It works simply enough, although you’ll need quite a lot of strength as it’s powered solely by hand-pumping. Just pop in the pod, add hot water and a few minutes later, coffee appears!

This is the perfect travel companion, whether you’re going on holiday, or just out for the day.

What is a Nespresso Machine?

Any coffee lover will know that pod coffee machines have become hugely popular over the last ten years. A lot of this popularity is down to Nespresso, and the range of machines and flavours they offer. Making coffee has never been so easy.

The machines on offer range from cheap to high end, high quality machines, as you can see in my reviews. Recently Nespresso have collaborated with other well known brands to make machines that are compatible with Nespresso pods, meaning the range of options out there has exploded.

So what is the best Nespresso machine for coffee? Well, it depends on the type of coffee you like, the amount of effort you want to put in, and your budget. My reviews cover some of the best on the market at the moment, so have a read and make up your mind.

If you’re looking for other pod machines, take a look at our post on the best coffee pod machines.

Why Use a Nespresso Coffee Machine?

The best Nespresso pod machine for you is whichever works best for your life. For some, it’s the cheapest model, for some it’s the smallest model, and for some it’s the all singing, all dancing model. Some advantages and disadvantages are shown below.

Advantages

There heaps of great advantages to owning a Nespresso coffee machine over other brands and types of machine.

  • Huge range of fantastic flavours available
  • Lots of compatible pods including reusable and refillable options
  • Easy to use – usually just press one button and away you go!
  • Quick way to make coffee

Disadvantages

  • Single-use coffee pods aren’t great for the environment but luckily reusable options are now widely available.
  • Some people think that Nespresso pods are a little small.

Features to Consider

Now that you’ve read my reviews, you should have more of an idea on what is the best Nespresso machine to buy. If you’re still confused, think about the below to help make your choice.

Price

Believe me, prices vary wildly in this area. You can spend as much or as little as you want to. Just remember, that a cheap Nespresso machine may not work how you want it to. The best budget Nespresso machine for you will balance your needs and taste against how much you want to spend.

I would recommend spending as much as possible for a high quality machine, especially if you’re using it as a replacement for barista coffee from a cafe. Use my reviews to help choose the best price Nespresso machine for you.

Water Tank Size

Think about who will be using your machine. Is it just you, or do you have a whole family full of coffee addicts? If the latter, you’ll want a larger water tank to avoid several refills each morning.

If your family can’t stand the stuff, and you only need to worry about yourself, then a smaller water tank will suffice.

Milk Frother

Do you love a milky coffee? Can’t function without your mid-morning flat white? Then you’ll need to think about getting a Nespresso machine with frother. Milk frothers either come separately, or built in.

The best Nespresso machine for cappuccino come with milk frothers, either electric or steam. Electric models heat the milk through induction, while steam models blow hot air into the milk to heat it. Both work well, although steam frothers are more authentic to barista style coffee.

Size/Footprint of Machine

A big thing to consider is the size of the machine compared to the size of your kitchen. The best Nespresso machine for home will fit perfectly on your counter top, without taking up all of your space.

Companies have started to realise that customers want their coffee machines to look good, as well as perform well. Maybe I’m biased as a coffee lover, but I think coffee machines nowadays are gorgeous, and if it’s gorgeous, why wouldn’t you want it out all the time? If you agree, but your kitchen is on the smaller side, then you’d be best looking for the smallest Nespresso machine you can.

Other Features to Look for

The above are the main features to consider, but there are a few other bits you should look out for:

  • Ease of use – some of these machines are more complicated than others although all of them take minimal learning.
  • Reusable/compostable pod compatibility
  • Will it make your favourite drink – there are so many different flavours on offer so be sure to check there is a beverage/espresso type you like before purchasing.

FAQs

How do you clean Nespresso machines?

Some Nespresso machines clean themselves, but not all. It is the water tank that needs cleaning most often, and this can usually just be thrown in the dishwasher.

Every so often, your machine will need descaling. This involves filling the water tank with a descaling product, then running this through the machine as if making a coffee.

Which is the most quiet Nespresso machine?

This really depends on the drinks you want to make. If you’re happy with an espresso, or plain americano, then an Essenza Mini is perfect. It’s quiet and easy to use.

If you prefer milky coffees that require a milk frother, then your machine is never going to be the quietest, although the Creatista gives it a good go. To say it froths the milk and pours a lovely espresso, it is very quiet. It even cleans itself after!

Which Nespresso machine pods can I use?

Most Nespresso machines use the original Nespresso pods, as well as cheaper versions and recyclable versions. Pods can be bought in Nespresso shops, or pretty much anywhere online. There are a couple of companies that have started to offer reusable pods, which you fill with your own coffee. These are a great option for eco-conscious customers.

As mentioned above, Vertuo machines use larger pods, which have a special bar code on the underside for the machines to read. These pods offer a larger range of options, but can only be used in dedicated Vertuo machines.
